Kirkwood House: R Way’s Psychiatric Residential Rehabilitation program

R Way's Kirkwood House is a 12 bed residential facility, staffed by 24 hour
awake staff.  There residents learn (or relearn) residential skills such as
cooking, shopping, cleaning, budgeting, and doing laundry.  Staff help
residents develop their personal, daily and community living skills.
Medication management is a important component of the program.
There is a mock apartment on-site where residents live before they move into
the community.

 
The desired outcomes of the Psychiatric Residential Rehabilitation program are:
  • To increase the consumer’s functioning so that she/he can eventually live successfully in the residential setting of her/his choice, capabilities and resources
  • To decrease the frequency and duration of hospitalization. 

Consumers living at Kirkwood house can expect to:
  • Live in a safe, challenging, supervised environment
  • Learn daily and community living skills necessary for independent living
  • Develop skills to manage their medication regime and illness
  • Decrease necessity,  frequency and of hospitalization
  • Learn social skills, develop relationships,  learn to work as a team

The Psychiatric Residential Rehabilitation program provides psychosocial rehabilitation and skill acquisition in community living skills, daily living skills, self- medication management, and other related psychiatric rehabilitation services as needed to meet individual consumer needs.  Psychiatric Residential Rehabilitation is a facility-bases, no hospital or nursing facility program for persons disable by severe and persistent mental illness, who are unable to reside in a less restrictive residential setting.  These facilities are integrated into the community, and ever effort is made for these residence to approximate other homes in their neighborhood.
